Women's Soccer ties with Sagehens

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The University of La Verne women's soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead, but the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens tied the game early in the second half and neither team could find the back of the net in overtime, tying 2-2 Wednesday afternoon.

Season Impact: The Leopards remain undefeated, moving to 4-0-2 overall and 1-0-2 in SCIAC play after tying their last two matches. Pomona-Pitzer moves 3-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.

Junior Mia Trugerro scored the first goal of her Leopard career to give La Verne the opening 1-0 lead after Hannah Leone connected with her in the 21st minute.

Jessica Hernandez doubled the Leopards' lead eleven minutes later off an assist by Alina Cobian. Hernandez currently ranks second in the SCIAC in both points (10) and goals (4).

It looked like La Verne would go into the break with a 2-0 lead, but with just 55 seconds remaining in the period, Megan Kuo scored an unassisted goal to get the Sagehens on the board. Chloe Hamer evened the game eight minutes into the second half on an unassisted shot.

In the overtime periods, Pomona-Pitzer totaled six shots with La Verne sending four, but neither team could break the tie.
