Four Leopards Named All-SCIAC

LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne women's soccer team placed four players on the 2017 All-SCIAC team the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Wednesday morning.

Alina Cobian, Jessica Hernandez, and Juna Bouchekara earned First Team All-SCIAC recognition while Anna Ottley was tabbed Second Team All-SCIAC.

Cobian, who was twice named SCIAC Athlete of the Week, was part of a Leopard defense that recorded five shutouts. The sophomore also came in big offensively for the Leopards, heading in two goals off corner kicks including the game-winner over Whittier. The Covina native also added two assists. 

Hernandez capped off her time as a Leopard with the best season of her career. The senior finished with eight goals, two assists, and 18 points, all career highs. Hernandez also earned SCIAC Athlete of the Week recognition after her hot start to the season.

Bouchekara earned all-conference recognition for the first time in her career. The junior midfielder scored two goals and added an assist, including the game-winning goal against Occidental with 18 seconds left in the game.

Otley makes the All-SCIAC team in her first year as a Leopard. The junior scored goals against Chapman and Whittier and also added an assist in the season opener against St. Catherine.

The Leopards finished the season with 9-6-3 overall record and a 5-6-3 record in the conference.
