LOS ANGELES — The two-time national champion Lenore Moreno '14 will compete in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Marathon on Saturday in Los Angeles.
Following a standout career at La Verne where she won the 5,000 meters at the 2014 NCAA Indoor National Championship and the 10,000 meters at the 2014 outdoor championship, Moreno qualified for the trials after winning the 2015 Suja Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon on May 31 with a time of 2 hours, 41 minutes, 39 seconds.
Moreno also won the 2015 JetBlue Marathon in Long Beach (2:40.42).
The West Covina native has also gotten attention from local media, being featured on the front page of the Los Angeles Times on Friday as well as the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
The race will take place in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. The course begins with a 2-mile loop that will go north of the start line through downtown Los Angeles. Runners will then do four 6-mile loops that will travel into South Los Angeles, going through the University of Southern California campus and passing by Exposition Park and the LA Coliseum—home of the 1984 Olympics. The race will finish back where it started, near Staples Center and L.A. Live.
The women's race will start at 10:22 a.m.
