Track and Field competes at Rossi Relays

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The University of La Verne track and field teams competed at the annual Rossi Relays, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, on Saturday at Burns Track and Field Complex.

The men's 4x100 meters relay team posted the highest finish, coming in third behind UC San Diego and Occidental at 41.93 seconds.

Other standouts were Chris Gura and Andrew Carrasco, who shined in throwing events. Gura placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 14.37 meters (47 feet, 1.75 inches) and Carrasco was 10th with a toss of 13.02m (42-08.75). Carrasco topped Gura in the hammer throw, coming in fifth with a throw of 52.01m (170-08). Gura was right behind in sixth with a toss of 51.49m (168-11).

All-American sprinter Tiahna Gillon placed fourth in the women's 100 meter dash with a time of 12.37.

Alexandria Spears was the first Division III finisher in the high jump, clearing 1.57m (5-01.75) for sixth place.

The Leopards are back in action at SCIAC Multi-Dual on March 5.
