LOS ANGELES — The University of La Verne women's track and field team recorded a pair of wins in the jumps and showed its depth to sweep Occidental and Caltech on Saturday at Bill Henry Track.
Alexandria Spears won the high jump with a clearance of 1.48 meters (4 feet, 10.25 inches) and Micaela Krumweide claimed the triple jump with a leap of 10.72m (35-02.00). Krumweide added a second place finish in the long jump at 5.10m (16-08.75).
Ebony Turner also cleared 1.48m in the high jump but placed third after tiebreakers, Dreama Gonzales finished third in the long jump (5.06m/16-08.75) and Catalina Lee Kim was third in the triple jump (10.65m/34-11.25) to round out La Verne's strong jumps lineup.
Tiahna Gillon notched a pair of wins in the 100m (12.45) and the 200m (25.76).
Melissa Cerrillos starred in the distance events, coming in third in the 800m (2:23.37) and the 1500m (5:00.84).
Kimmy Kabluyen finished second in the 400m at 59.03.
Jessica Reeves, Kabluyen, Gonzales and Tiahna Gillong combined to go 49.04 to finish second in the 4x100m relay and Gillon, Gonzales, Cerrillos and Kabluyen went 3:58.89 to finish second in the 4x400m.
The Leopards are back in action on Friday at the annual Occidental Distance Spring Break Classic.
