Dela Cruz, Krumweide PR in Azusa

AZUSA, CA — Matthew Salas led the University of La Verne track and field teams with a record setting-performance Friday at the Brian Clay Invitational held at Azusa Pacific University.

Salas clocked in at 1:52.41, breaking the old record of 1:54.10 set by Michael Sacoto in 2011. Salas finished the race as the top NCAA Division III athlete in the event.

Senior Melissa Cerrillos posted a solid time in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing with a time of 11:03.11. Fellow senior Rachael Dela Cruz added a personal record in the event clocking in at 11:23.97.

Jade Griffin posted a 58.23 in the 400m dash. Elizabeth Prevedello went 18-00.25 in the long jump and Micaela Krumweide lept 17-03.5. Krumweide added a personal record in the triple jump with a mark of 35-07.25  (11.46m).

Senior Jeffrey Ouk finished with a time of 50.07 in the 400m dash. Fellow senior Patrick Cornwell clocked in at 56.28 in the 400m hurdles. Kyle Ambat added a leap of 6.84m in the long jump.

Next Meet

The Leopards will next compete at the SCIAC Championships held at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The meet will run from April 27-28.
