Reid Joins Team USA Pan American Games Coaching Staff

INDIANAPOLIS — University of La Verne Track and Field Head Coach Kevin Reid has been named to the Team USA Track & Field coaching staff for the 2019 Lima XVIII Pan American Games, USATF announced.

Reid, who is entering his third season with the Leopards, is the only NCAA Division III coach on the staff and will serve as the jumps and combined events coach for the men's squad.

Although this will be Reid's first time coaching at the Pan American games, he is no stranger to working with Team USA at international competitions. He has been involved with USA Track & Field since 1990 and has coached in three Olympic Games. He most notably coached decathlete Bryan Clay to a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing and a silver medal at Athens 2004. He has coached in every U.S. Olympic Team Trials since 1992 and every USA Track & Field Championships since 1990.

"It's always an honor to be selected to be a part of Team USA," said Reid. "The Pan Am Games are considered a big three event, and to be on this staff is definitely an honor and privilege."

Reid has received two USA Track & Field head coaching assignments, leading Team USA's Thorpe Cup combined events team in 2005 and 2015. On the junior level, he coached jumps and multis at the 2018 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland.

The 2019 Pan American Games began on July 26 with track and field events scheduled to start on August 6 in Lima, Peru.
