NEW ORLEANS — Eight athletes from the University of La Verne track and field teams picked up a total of 13 All-West Region honors the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association announced.
The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top-3 ranked relay team.
Melissa Cerrillos led the way for the Leopards with three All-Region awards for her performances in the steeplechase, 1500m, and 800m. Cerrillos will continue her season at the NCAA Championships later this week. Jade Griffin and Elizabeth Prevedello each earned a pair of honors. Griffin for the 400m and 200m dashes and Prevedello in the long jump and heptathlon. The duo will join Cerrillos at nationals.
Senior Kyle Ambat ended his career with two more All-Region distinctions. Ambat was the top performer in the west with a mark of 46-9 in the triple jump and was fourth in the long jump.
No conference earned more combined All-Region honors than the SCIAC with 143 athletes represented.
A total of 1915 honors were handed out to athletes from USTFCCCA member institutions, which included a near-even split between men's (951) and women's programs (964).
