LA VERNE, CA — Adam Santa Cruz, Pitiluk Phanomchai, and Matthew Pedroza each earned SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors for their respective sports the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced.
Santa Cruz led the La Verne baseball team to three road wins over Centenary College. The catcher led the Leopards with eight RBI, six hits with a .545 batting average. He added three runs, a pair of walks, and a double. The Victorville native got the Leopards rolling in game one, hitting in the Leopards' first three runs of the game and added two more RBI in the final inning. The senior recorded at least one hit and one RBI in each of La Verne's wins.
Phanomchai led the La Verne men's golf squad at the Poet Challenge. The sophomore took first overall with a score of four-over 75. The Thailand native helped lead La Verne to a team victory in their opening tournament of the spring.
Pedroza led the Leopards with dominant individual performances against NCAA Division II Biola. The junior picked up a trio of wins, taking first in the shot put (14.02m), discus (38.04m), and weight throw (11.60m).
