Peres, Santa Cruz named All-Region

Christopher Peres and Adam Santa Cruz have both been tabbed All-West Region.

Peres garnered First Team All-West honors and his fourth overall All-Region award. The 2019 SCIAC Athlete of the Year and Scafani Athlete of the Year led the Leopards at the plate and on the mound all season.

The senior led La Verne in several offensive statistical categories including 40 hits, a .355 batting average, 13 doubles, three home runs, and a .529 slugging percentage. He also added 41 RBI, 35 runs, two triples, 16 walks, and a .421 on-base percentage. On the mound, he ranked third in the SCIAC with eight saves and boasted a 1.93 ERA to go with four wins and no losses.

Santa Cruz picks up back-to-back All-Region honors, earning Second Team All-West Region accolades. Santa Cruz ranked second in the SCIAC with 44 RBI and sixth in the conference with 54 hits. He finished just outside of the top ten in the SCIAC with a .338 batting average.

The Victorville native added 32 runs, 10 doubles, three home runs, two triples, 16 walks, and a .413 on-base percentage. The junior struck out just nine times in 160 at bats and defensively caught 10 runners stealing. 

The 2019 season marks the eighth year that has named All-Region teams, with more than 800 players nominated. The ballot was then made available to sports information directors, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region, as well as staff and contributors.
