Baseball falls to Oxy on Friday

LOS ANGELES — The University of La Verne baseball team couldn't get their bats going in a road game against the Occidental College Tigers on Friday, falling 5-2.

Season Impact

The results of this series will go a long way in determining the seeding for the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. The Leopards and Tigers came into the game tied for second place in the conference, and with the loss, Oxy takes a one game advantage over La Verne with an 11-5 SCIAC record. The Tigers improve to 23-9 overall.

La Verne now moves into a tie for third place in the SCIAC with Cal Lutheran with a 10-6 SCIAC record. The Leopards move to 23-9 overall.

The Leopards managed just two hits in the game, one off a leadoff double by Christopher Ligot in the fifth inning. Ligot scored later in the inning when Tanner Siffert reached on an error to get the deficit to 4-2.

La Verne got on the board in the fourth when Ryan Galan made his way to third following a walk, stolen base, and a wild pitch. Tanner Browning got Galan across the plate when he grounded out to first. Galan leads the SCIAC with 21 stolen bases.

Occidental took the opening 1-0 lead in the second off a leadoff home run by Antonio Andrade and added to it later in the inning off an RBI single by Reid Gibbs. The Tigers added two more runs the following inning to pull away.

Next Game

The Leopards have a chance to bounce back against the Tigers on Saturday when they host Occidental at Ben Hines field in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
