ORANGE, CA — Christopher Peres finished the day with three hits and the University of La Verne baseball team rallied in Saturday's opener to force extra innings.
But the University of La Verne baseball team fell to the No. 20 Chapman Panthers in a pair of games on Saturday.

The Leopards drop to 7-3 overall and 1-2 in SCIAC play. Chapman improves to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the SCIAC.
Game Two: No. 20 Chapman 4, La Verne 3 (10 Innings)
The Panthers led off the bottom of the 10th win a double and capitalized with a two-out RBI four batters later to take the opener from the Leopards.
The Leopards erased an early 3-0 deficit in the top of the sixth inning off the bat of Adam Santa Cruz. With one out and two runners on, the catcher tripled down the left field line to bring in Tanner Siffert and Jacob Benson.
Christopher Peres followed it up with a ground out RBI that brought in the Victorville native.
Benson set up the Leopards' scoring opportunity with a leadoff single to center followed by a Ryan Galan sacrifice bunt and Siffert walk. Benson and Peres each finished the game 2-4 at the plate.
Alec Telles took the loss for the Leopards, pitching 4.2 innings of relief, giving up just one run. The junior struck out three batters in his outing.
Cody Turner picked up the win for the Panthers.
Game Three: Chapman 7, La Verne 1
Christian Killian gave La Verne an early 1-0 lead when he singled in Peres, but that was all the offense the Leopards could muster in game three.
Dre Littwin and Kevin Gregersen led the Panthers with two RBI each.
Andrew Aguilera went 4.2 innings in his start, striking out one. Peres pitched the final inning and struck out two.
Mason Collins picked up the win for the Panthers.
Next Game
The Leopards continue SCIAC play next Friday when they travel down the road to face the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens at 2:30 p.m.
