MTF competes at SCIAC No. 3

WHITTIER, CA — The University of La Verne track and field team posted five wins and the Leopards finished the SCIAC regular season on Saturday at Whittier College.

Matthew Pedroza led the way with a first place finish in the hammer throw. The junior set a personal record with a throw of 146-03. Pedroza also added a personal best in the discus with a toss of 134-06 to take second.

Terrence Robinson added a personal record and the fastest time this season for La Verne in the 200m at 22.43 to take third. He added another lifetime best in the 400m at 50.44 to take third.

Matthew Salas ran his fastest time ever in the 1500m clocking in at 4:01.14 finishing second. The time was the fastest this year for the Leopards and puts him fifth in La Verne history.

Nathan Bradley finished third in the 400m hurdles with a personal best time of 56.72.

Both of the Leopards' relay teams ran season bests. The 4x100m team of Hunter Powers, Robinson, Austin Haines, and Kyle Ambat clocked in at 42.76, and the 4x400m relay team of Robinson, Jeffrey Ouk, Patrick Cornwell, and Salas finished at 3:21.31.

On the women's side, Jade Griffin led the Leopards with a pair of first place finishes. The junior took first in both the 100m and 200m recording personal bests in both events. Her time of 12.27 in the 100m puts her eighth all-time in the La Verne record books and 15th nationally. She clocked in at 25.08 in the 200m puts her seventh in the nation and fifth in La Verne history.

Cerrillos paced the pack in the 800m, crossing the finish line a 2:16.70 the fastest time by a Leopards this season, putting her in the top-30 in NCAA Division III.

The women's 4x400m relay team took first with the squad of Griffin, Cerrillos, Jessica Portillo, and Elizabeth Prevedello clocking in at 4:02.27, 30th in the nation. The mark was the fastest time this season for La Verne and the ninth best in program history.

Prevedello added a personal record in the 100m hurdles, taking second at 15.00. The time puts the junior at 28th in DIII. The time also places her third on La Verne's all-time list.

The women's 4x100m relay team also added a season-best with Krumweide, Griffin, Karina Jimenez, and Marissa Perez finishing at 50.22 to take third.
