PASADENA — Kelsi Robinson and Brittany Yaxley of the University of La Verne volleyball team were both named to First Team All-SCIAC on Wednesday as voted by the conference's head coaches.
Both players have been instrumental in La Verne's turnaround in 2014. The duo led the Leopards to a 20-5 (12-4 SCIAC) overall finish in the regular season and helped La Verne earn a national ranking for the first time in two years after a tough 2013 season.
Yaxley, who is ranked seventh in the nation in points (kills and aces) per set at 4.18, adds her first First Team recognition after earning a spot on the Second Team last year. The junior outside hitter has already etched a place in La Verne history as she reached the 1,000-kill and 100-ace milestones earlier this year. Yaxley has 368 kills and a .317 hitting percentage as well as 62 service aces.
Robinson is having a breakout sophomore season. The sophomore middle blocker is ranked third nationally in blocks per set (1.36) and earns her first All-SCIAC honor. She hasn't been a slouch on offense, either, as she's knocking down 2.55 kills per set on .303 hitting.
La Verne will face No. 18 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps tomorrow in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament semifinal at 5 p.m.
