SAN ANTONIO, TX — Kristen Sanchez surpassed 1,500 career digs and the University of La Verne volleyball team ended their trip to Texas with wins over Schreiner and Texas-Dallas on Saturday.
Sanchez, a senior from Alta Loma who went into the weekend with 1,470 digs, passed the mark against the Concordia Tornados. Sanchez finished the weekend with 75 digs, placing her career at total 1,545 digs, third all-time in the La Verne record books.

Set Scores: 25-18, 25-14, 25-5
The Leopards rolled in their opener on Saturday, hitting .319 in the win. Freshman Haley Celaya had a standout game leading La Verne with 11 kills. Kelsie Sievers added nine kills and sophomore Emma Estigoy put down seven of her own.
The stat of the game was the unbelievable .733 hitting percentage the Leopards put down in their dominating third set. La Verne rallied off 13 points before Schreiner was able to get on the board.
La Verne 3, Texas-Dallas 1
Set Scores: 22-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-22
The Leopards recovered from an opening set loss to end day two with their second win of the day. Four Leopards finished with double-digit kills against the Comets. Celaya hit .394 in the match with 14 kills. Katelyn Winiecki hit an outstanding .409, finishing with 11 kills.
Estigoy totaled 14 kills and Sievers added 13 kills of her own.
Sanchez added a season-high 31 digs in the match to her already the historic weekend. Madison Maynes finished with 45 assists.
Day One
La Verne opened the weekend with their third top-10 opponent of the year in No. 5 Trinity (Tex.). Sievers led La Verne with 11 kills in the four-set loss.
The Leopards finished day one with a three-set loss to Concordia (Tex.). Winiecki finished with nine kills and Maynes dished out nine assists.

La Verne opens up SCIAC play next when they travel to No. 11 Cal Lutheran on Wednesday, September 12 at 7 p.m.
