ORANGE, Calif. — Guarina Garcia and Jasmine Bustamante each scored four goals, Candice Vorbeck had two goals and three assists, and the La Verne women's water polo team defeated Chapman 14-10 on Saturday at Allred Pool.
The Leopards improve to 9-6 overall and 3-0 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Chapman falls to 5-15 and 2-1.
La Verne led wire-to-wire. Guarina Garcia broke the scoring seal three minutes into the game, Jasmine Bustamante found the net 50 seconds later and the Leopards never looked back.
Garcia, who was held scoreless in La Verne's win over Cal Lutheran on Wednesday, set the tone early with three first half goals. After opening the scoring, she added another in the first quarter to help the Leopards get out to a 4-1 lead.
Bustamante tallied four goals for the second consecutive game. The junior scored back-to-back goals after the Panthers scored two in a row to cut La Verne's lead to 10-7 lead late in the third quarter to put the Leopards up 12-7.
Vorbeck scored a goal each half and dished out three assists to grease the wheels on offense.
Megan Little added a pair of goals and Ardell Aquino scored one.
Jordan Ehara played all 32 minutes and made eight saves.
Grace Schade led Chapman with three goals.
The Leopards return to action on Tuesday at 10 a.m. against Brown.
