La Verne drops Occidental on Senior Day, 18-4

LA VERNE, Calif. – Stephanie Rosero notched five goals and eight other Leopards saw the back of the cage as the La Verne women's water polo ran away with a 18-4 win over Occidental at Las Flores Park on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Leopards improve to 11-9 overall and 5-2 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Tigers fall to 5-18 overall and 0-6 in SCIAC play.

Rosero put La Verne on the board first with two quick goals. Guarina Garcia and Rya Minow would add two more, putting the Leopards up 4-0 before Claudia Oppermann could find the back of the goal for the Tigers. La Verne would tack on six more goals in the second quarter to take a 10-2 lead into halftime.

The Leopards found the same productivity from their bench as they did their starters. Teresa Zuniga scored on every attempt and notched a hat trick. Samantha Farias Murillo picked up her first goal of the season, and Heather Barba picked up a goal and made two steals.

Jordan Ehara collected four saves while only allowing two and Delaney Moller saved four in the fourth quarter.

Before the game, the Leopards honored the careers of their eight seniors with a pregame ceremony: Ardelle Aquino, Heather Barba, Zoe Kratzer, Megan Little, Lauren Quintero, Rosero, Cambria Serrano, and Zuniga. Each senior was presented with gifts from the team and the coaching staff and were accompanied by their families.

The Leopards return to action on Wednesday for their final SCIAC match against Redlands.
