Women's Water Polo Opens 2020 With Tough Competition

LONG BEACH, CA — The University of La Verne women's water polo team opened the 2020 season at the Long Beach State Invite against tough competition.

The Leopards played No. 14 Long Beach State, No. 19 Cal State Northridge, and No. 20 San Diego State, falling 14-6, 19-7, and 18-5 respectively.

Returning All-American Jassmine Kezman along with freshmen newcomers Nancy Trinh and Nanea Mattson each finished the weekend with three goals. 

Emilie Eastman, Christine Castrellon, and Sumi Rudisky all scored twice. Alicia Thompson, Kelly Riedel, and Sage Nowell each notched one goal. 

Shelby Garcia finished the tournament with 13 saves and junior transfer Loreny Valdez notched 11 saves.

Next Game

The Leopards play their home opener this Saturday, February 1 at 3 p.m. against Fresno Pacific.
