Kezman Leads Leopards to Win in SCIAC Opener

REDLANDS — Jassmine Kezman could not be stopped. The junior netted a career-high seven goals and the University of La Verne women's water polo team earned a 10-6 win in its SCIAC opener Wednesday night.

Season Impact

The Leopards improve to 6-3 overall and start conference action 1-0. The Bulldogs fall to 3-5 and 1-2 in SCIAC play.

How It Happened

Kezman was outstanding. The two-time All-American scored her seven goals off just eight shots to give her squad the win. She got to work early, taking advantage of a La Verne power play, grabbing a pass from Sumi Rudisky, and darting a shot to the back of the net for the early 1-0 advantage.

Redlands briefly evened the score off a goal by Sarah Draves, but it took Rudisky just 13 seconds to put the Leopards back on top for good. Rudisky finished the game with three goals, one assist, and a steal.

Kezman added three more first-half goals to put La Verne up 5-2 at the break. In the third quarter, Kezman continued to add to the Leopards' lead with a pair of five-meter goals. Kezman's seven goals surpass her previous career-high of six goals in an overtime game against Saint Francis (PA) last season.

Shelby Garcia had a great game finishing with seven saves while allowing just six goals. The senior held Redlands to just three scores through the first three quarters.

Candice Vorbeck and Jordan Ehara each dealt an assist, and Kelly Riedel added one steal.

Hunter Olivier led the Bulldogs with three goals.
