14 Leopards Named ACWPC All-Academic

BRIDGEPORT, PA — Fourteen members of the University of La Verne women's water polo team have been named to the 2020 ACWPC All-Academic Team the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced.

The award breaks recipients down into three categories: Outstanding (4.0 - 3.71 GPA), Superior (3.70 - 3.41 GPA), and Excellent (3.40-3.20 GPA).

All three of the Leopards' All-American recipients also earned All-Academic honors. Senior and First Team All-American Shelby Garcia picked up Superior honors while fellow First Team All-American Jassmine Kezman earned Excellent status. Freshman All-American honorable mention Nancy Trinh garnered Excellent accolades. 

Six Leopards earned Outstanding honors with seniors Ilene Guerrero and Jordan Ehara leading the way. Kayla Garcia, Kristina Mariani, Lauren Holcomb, Melanie Gazazian also all earned Outstanding recognition.

Joining Garcia on the Superior list were Kelly Riedel, Sumi Rudisky, and Loreny Valdez. Along with Kezman and Trinh on the Excellent list were Sona Aghasaryan and Angelica Espinoza.

The Leopards earned a 3.35 overall team grade point average. 

La Verne finished the abbreviated season 10-5 overall, 2-0 in SCIAC play, and undefeated against Division III competition.
