GREENSBORO, N.C. — Juniors Michael Bonicatto and Kelby Scharmann were named to Division III PING All-West Region Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Tuesday. This is the second year in a row Scharmann has earned the accolade.
After a relatively slow start at the SCIAC No. 1, where he finished in 30th place (78-78=156), Scharmann roared back to win the second SCIAC regular season tournament with a two-round score of 138 (65-73). Scharmann finished eighth overall at the Championships (74-73-84=231). In addition, Scharmann led the way for the Leopards at the prestigious Jekyll Island (Ga.) Collegiate Invitational, finishing 11th with a three-round score of four-over 218 (76-71-71). Scharmann was named to First Team All-SCIAC last week.
Bonicatto played his best golf against some of the best competition in the country. He finished 17th overall at the Jekyll Island Invitational with a six-over 220 (72-70-78) and finished 26th (80-76-78=234) at the West Cup comprised of best teams west of the Mississippi.
Both Scharmann and Bonicatto are currently competing in the NCAA Division III National Championships at Greensboro, N.C.
