GREENSBORO, N.C. — After two rounds of play, the University of La Verne golf team is in fifth place at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships at the par-72 Grandover Resort. By finishing better than 15^th after the first two rounds, La Verne makes the cut to advance to the final two rounds of play.

La Verne shot a two-round total of 591 (297-294) and sit 12 strokes back of the leader Schreiner (Texas) who posted a 578 (285-293).

Keven Holliday led the way for La Verne in first round. The senior shot a two-under 70 to tie for fifth place individually after the first 18 holes.

The course played tougher in the second round, with only one team shooting under par (Oglethorpe). But all five Leopards played steady golf to climb up the leaderboard. Alec Spencer took the baton from Holliday in round 2, shooting a one-under 71. After double-bogeying the first hole, the freshman rattled in five birdies without dropping a shot in the next 11 holes to pace the Leopards in the second round.

Spencer leads the Leopards with a two-day score of 146 (75-71) with Holliday right behind at 148 (70-78). Kelby Scharmann and Paul Gomez posted two identical rounds (76-74) and each sits at six-over 150. Michael Bonicatto rounds out the La Verne lineup at 12-over 156.

Also advancing to the final two rounds is Redlands, who is tied at 11^th (298-297=595). The 2014 SCIAC Champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps missed the cut, finishing 20^th after the first two rounds (300-305=605).

Brian Burt of Hampden-Sydney (Va.) leads all individual golfers at an impressive eight-under 136.

Action at the NCAA Championships continues on Thursday, beginning play at approximately at 4 a.m. Pacific Time.
