Scharmann Tabbed PING Second Team All-America

NORMAN, Okla. — Junior La Verne golfer Kelby Scharmann was named a Division III PING Second Team All-American, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Wednesday. This is the ninth year in a row at least one La Verne golfer was named an All-American.

Scharmann registered a scoring average of 74.47 on the season and led the Leopards to a sixth-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Men's Golf Championships, where he shot a four round total of five-over 293 (76-74-70-73) to come in seventh individually.

Scharmann was especially sharp down the stretch of the season, finishing top-10 in the final four events in which he competed. He claimed the medalist honors at the SCIAC No. 2 after shooting a six-under 138 including a personal best 65 in the first round. Scharmann took third (73-73-81=227) at the West Cup and eighth (74-73-84=231) at the SCIAC Championship. In addition, Scharmann led the way for the Leopards at the prestigious Jekyll Island (Ga.) Collegiate Invitational, finishing 11th with a three-round score of four-over 218 (76-71-71).

In May, Scharmann was selected to First Team All-SCIAC and PING All-West Region Team.
