Scharmann wins SCIAC Athlete of the Year; Spencer, Twamley All-SCIAC

PASADENA — Kelby Scharmann of the University of La Verne men's golf team was named the 2015 Lee Fulmer Athlete of the Year by the head coaches of the SCIAC after posting the lowest average score in conference competition.

In addition, Alec Spencer was named to First Team All-SCIAC and Trent Twamley landed on the Second Team.

Scharmann shot an average score of 70.71 in SCIAC rounds and won at least a share of two individual medals in SCIAC tournaments. Scharmann shot a two-round score of 146 at SCIAC No. 1 to share the medalist honors with Barrett McGinnis of Cal Lutheran and ran away with the SCIAC Championship Tournament title with a three-round score of eight-under 208. He finished in third place at SCIAC No. 2 with a three-under 141.

Spencer, who earned First Team honors in addition to winning the SCIAC Freshman of Year award in 2014, was selected to the First Team for the second year in a row after notching two top-five finishes in SCIAC tournaments. He finished tied for fifth at SCIAC No. 2 with a score of one-under 143 and came back to finish tied for fourth at the SCIAC Championship at three-over 219. At the SCIAC Championship, he shot an incredible seven-under 65 in the second round.

Twamley earns his first All-SCIAC honors after turning in three top-20 finishes in SCIAC competition. The senior finished 18th at SCIAC No. 1 (85-77-162), tied for 10th at SCIAC No. 2 (70-78=148) and tied for 14th at the SCIAC Championship (73-76-78=227).

All three are currently competing at the 2015 NCAA Division III National Championship in Greensboro, N.C.
