GREENSBORO, N.C. — After two rounds of play, the University of La Verne men's golf team is tied for 11th place at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at Grandover Resort (par-72). By finishing in the top-15 after the first two rounds, the Leopards make the cut to advance to the final two rounds of play.

La Verne dropped two spots on the leaderboard after shooting a 16-over 304 as a team on Wednesday. The Leopards sit at a total score of 601 and are 20 strokes back of the leader Redlands (285-296=581).

Kelby Scharmann, who got off a blistering start with a six-under 66 in the first round, came out of the gates slowly on Wednesday but steadied himself on later holes. The senior was four shots over par after his first six holes but sank two birdies to just one bogey in the final round to finish with a three-over 75. Scharmann is in third place individually at -3.

Alec Spencer had La Verne's low score on the day, carding a two-over 74. Trent Twamley came in with a four-over 76 and Justin Smith booked a seven-over 79 to round out La Verne's scoring. Michael Bonicatto got off a tough start, but settled down in the back nine to finish with an 83.

Andrew Maccaglia of Oglethorpe used a round of four-under 68 to claim the top spot on the individual leaderboard at -6 overall.

Action at NCAA Championship continues on Thursday, with Bonicatto starting things off for La Verne at 5:50 a.m. Pacific Time.
