Dunlop Leads Leopards In 2021-22 Opener

VENTURA, CA — The University of La Verne men's golf team made their return to the golf course early this week, finishing fourth at the CA Intercollegiate hosted at Olivas Links.

The Leopards finished the three-round tournament +2, five strokes ahead of SCIAC rival Pomona-Pitzer and eight strokes ahead of Redlands.

Connor Dunlop led La Verne with a second-place individual finish, finishing the competition at -11, just one stroke behind tournament winner Mason Chiu from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Dunlop got off to a hot start, shooting a round low 66 to start the tournament. He followed up that performance in round two shooting a 71 before closing the tournament with a 68.

"Connor had a great start to the season for us," said new University of La Verne head golf coach Brad Johnson. "He great opening round and showed he can be consistent for an entire tournament. We're looking forward to how he does the rest of the season.

Zane Mularski tied for 23rd place carding a +4. His best round game in the opener when he finished one under par. Michael Ordona finished a stroke behind Mularski in a tie for 29th place, ending the tournament with a 72 in round three, his best showing of the event.

Nathan Stepanshki finished at +6 in a tie for 33rd place, also closing out the tournament with a par-72 in the final round. Aaron Yoo carded a +9 in a tie for 41st, finishing with rounds of 73, 79, and 73.

The Leopards return to action next week when they participate in the Redlands Bulldog Invitational at Redlands Country Club. The competition begins Monday, September 20 and ends the following day.
