REDLANDS, CA — Michael Ordona got better every round on the way to a second-place individual finish and the University of La Verne men's golf team took fourth at the Redladns Bulldog Invitational.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (No. 14) won the event with Whitworth (RV) taking second, and Redlands (No. 18) finishing in third.
Ordona only got better as the tournament went on. The junior opened with a +2, 72, improved by four strokes to shoot a four-under 68 in the second round, and closed with a 66 to finish at -4 (206), just one stroke behind Sam Pauly from Whitworth.
Ordona finished with four birdies on the opening round and matched that performance with four birdies in the second round, three coming on the front nine. Ordona had a shaky start to the final round opening with bogies on the first and second holes. But he responded by birding the third, eighth, and ninth holes and added three more birdies on the back nine.
Ordona led the tournament with 14 birdies. The Leopards tied for second in the tournament with 43 total birdies.
Fresh off a second-place finish his last time out, Connor Dunlop added another strong showing with a top-10 finish. Dunlop tied for 10th place with a +4, 214. He had his best outing in the second round when he shot a 69 and totaled five birdies in the final round.
Nathan Stepanski ended in a tie for 16th place with a final card of 218 after rounds of 72, 73, and 73. Zane Mularski finished one stroke behind (75, 70, 74) to tie for 19th. Aaron Yoo rounded out the scoring with a 232.
The Leopards conclude their fall season when they travel to Prescott, AZ for the Embry-Riddle Golf Tournament funning from October 10-12.
