Men's Golf Ranked 10th Nationally

LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne men's golf team earned a No. 10 national ranking on the latest Golfstat NCAA Division III Top-25 list, the organization announced this week.

The Leopards are a constant presence in the national rankings and this year is no different. The most recent accolade comes on the heels of an impressive fall schedule which culminated in the Leopards winning the two-day Chapman Quad match.

Perhaps more impressively is that in La Verne's three fall tournaments the Leopards had three different golfers earn top-two individual finishes. Aaron Yoo highlighted the trio with an individual win at the Chapman Quad. Michael Ordona posted a second-place finish at the Redlands Bulldog Invitational and Connor Dunlop added took second at the CA Intercollegiate. The squad took fourth at both the Bulldog Invitational and the CA Intercollegiate.

The squad is led by first-year Leopard head coach Brad Johnson, but coach Johnson is no stranger to leading teams to top national finishes. In his last full season, Johnson led the NYU women's golf team to an NCAA Division III National Championship.

However, the Leopards won't have an easy road as the Golfstat rankings once against recognized the SCIAC as one of the best if not the best golf conference in the nation. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is ranked No. 3, Occidental is at No. 11, Redlands sits at No. 20, and Pomona-Pitzer ranks No. 24.

Just outside the top-25 is Cal Lutheran at No. 36 and Chapman at No. 44 meaning of the eight SCIAC institutions that sponsor men's golf, seven are ranked in the top-50 nationally.

The competitive balance sets up what should be an exciting race for the SCIAC Championships in the spring.
