LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne men's soccer team scored three second-half goals on their way to a 3-0 win over visiting George Fox Sunday afternoon at Ortmayer Stadium.
Season Impact
The Leopards pick up their second year of the win improving to 2-2 overall. The Bruins fall to 1-3.
Play of the Game
After both teams had trouble getting shots on goal in the opening half, it took freshman Salvador Ortega just over three minutes to find the back of the net in the second half. After a foul by the Bruins, Ortega set up for the free kick near the far sideline, 25 yards away from the goal. The Los Angeles native struck a perfect ball to the top right corner of the net for the opening 1-0 lead
Goals
Adrian Landeros doubled La Verne's lead in the 62nd minute, gathering the ball inside the box after a long throw in with a hard strike to the back of the net.
Joshua Robinson scored the final goal of the game when he headed in a ball off a deflection from a George Fox defender.
By the Numbers
It was a physical 90 minutes with the Leopards and Bruins combining for 36 fouls in the game.
Next Game
La Verne returns to SCIAC play on Wednesday when they host Cal Lutheran in their conference home opener at 7 p.m.
