Relay Teams Break Records at Rossi Relays

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of La Verne women's distance medley and men's 4x800m relay teams both set new school records amongst a field of NCAA Division I and SCIAC competition at the 18th annual Rossi Relays, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The women's medley team claimed the race with a record time of 12:10.78, beating out the likes of the University of Southern California, Cal Poly Pomona and conference rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The men's 4x800 relay team also set a new school record, finishing behind UC San Diego and ahead of USC for second place with a time of 8:02.87.

Taylor Bernhard and Katie Yeager had a pair of strong showings in the women's pole vault. Bernhard shared the first place honors with UCSD's Megan Benham with a clearance of 11 feet, 5 ¾ inches (3.50m). Yeager finished tied for third, vaulting 10-11.75 (3.35m).

Throwers continued their strong starts to the season.

Deanna Doss had a trio of top 10 finishes, placing 8th in the shot put (36-04.00, 11.07m), 9th in the discus throw (117-03, 35.73m) and 6th in the hammer throw (153-01, 46.65). Christiana Coughlin had a javelin throw of 115-05 (35.19m), which was good for fourth place.

On the men's side, Chris Gura was 4th in the discus with a throw of 134-08 (41.05m) and Andrew Carrasco was 7th in the hammer throw (136-02, 41.50m). Brock Booth and Matthew Rehder was 4-5 in the javelin with throws of 171-03 (52.19) and 169-10 (51.76), respectively.

Chancise Watkins came in 5th in the 100-meter dash at 10.76 seconds. Robert Oshodin was 10th at 11.03.

La Verne hosts its first tri-meet of the year next Saturday at the Ortmayer Stadium.
