Track and Field Teams Earn Academic Accolades

NEW ORLEANS — The University of La Verne men's and women's track and field teams earned the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic awards after excellent season on the field and in the classroom.

The teams earned the distinctions as result of earning a cumulative team grade point average of 3.10 or higher.

In addition, Deanna Doss, Tiahna Gillon, Jason Nicholls and Robert Oshodin garnered individual recognition as All-Academic individuals.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Teams, the student athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and have met either of the following academic standards:

  • Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
  • Finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org

Doss came in ninth in the hammer throw and narrowly missed out on the podium at the outdoor championships.

Gillon, a freshman, competed in the outdoor championships as a part of the women's 4x100 relay team that finished 15th.

Nicholls ranked in the top 35 in two different events. The freshman was ranked 25th in the men's decathlon and 31st in the pole vault at the conclusion of the regular season.

Oshodin claimed a national championship as a part of the winning men's 4x100 relay along with Chancise Watkins, James Francis and Nick Gonsalves.
