REDLANDS, Calif. — Josh Francis won four events to lead the University of La Verne men's track and field team to dual meet wins over Whittier and Redlands on Saturday at Cunningham Track.
Francis posted the second fastest NCAA Division III mark and a personal record time of 21.46 seconds to claim the 200 meters. He also led La Verne's 1-2-3 sweep in the 400 meters with a winning time of 49.10.
Francis was also a part of two winning relay teams. The 4 x 100 meters relay team of Nick Gonsalves, Francis, Robert Oshodin and Austin Warrington posted a winning time of 40.91. Francis anchored the 4 x 400 with Jesus Payan, Jeffery Ouk and Oshodin and the quartet posted a time of 3:23.45.
The 4 x 100 relay is currently the fastest time in the country and the only team to break the 41-second mark this season.
Ouk (50.10) and Payan (50.70) was right behind Francis in the 400 meters.
The Leopards were dominant in jumps and throws.
Jacob Pavlovics took the high jump with a clearance of 1.90 meters and Jacob Lopez won the triple jump with a leap of 14.08m.
Chris Gura won the shot put with a toss of 14.44m, Andrew Carrasco claimed the hammer throw with a throw of 55.46 and Michael Burciaga-Ellis won the javelin throw with a best mark of 50.35m.
The Leopards are back in action next Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
