LA VERNE, Calif. — Joshua Francis was a quadruple winner once again, Jacob Lopez posted a top-10 mark in the triple jump and the University of La Verne men's track and field team went 3-1at the third SCIAC Multi-Dual meet of the season on Saturday at Ortmayer Stadium and Campus West.
The Leopards defeated Chapman, Cal Lutheran and Pomona-Pitzer, and lost to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
The most impressive result for the men was Lopez's triple jump. The senior unleashed a leap of 14.43 meters (47 feet, 4.25 inches) to finish first in the event and posted the eighth best jump in NCAA Division III this season.
Lopez notched another personal record in the long jump as he leaped 6.56m (21-06.25) and finished fourth. He added a second place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.50 seconds.
Francis, who won four events at SCIAC Multi-Dual 2, repeated the feat at his home stadium. The sophomore won the 200m (21.77) and the 400m (49.21) individually and was a part of winning 4x100m (41.49) and 4x400 (3:20.19) relay teams.
The Leopards went 3-4-5 in the 100m. Austin Warrington came in third at 10.93, Robert Oshodin was fourth at 10.98 and Nick Gonsalves took fifth with a time of 11.10. The trio ran the winning 4x100 relay as well.
Andrew Carrasco claimed the hammer throw with a toss of 55.26m.
T.J. Randall posted three top-five finishes in the discus, the hammer and the shot put. He came in second in the shot put with a toss of 14.05m, took fourth in the hammer throw with a throw of 42.93m and was fifth in the discus with a toss of 38.41m.
Chris Gura was third in the discus (41.00m), fifth in the hmmaer (41.93m) and fourth in the shot put (13.25m).
Michael Burciaga-Ellis finished second in the javelin throw with a toss of 49.40m.
The Leopards are back in action next Saturdat at UC San Diego Invitational.
