Distance runners record personal bests at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. — A handful of distance runners for the University of La Verne men's track and field team posted personal records at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday.

Antonio Rivera, Joel Sincock and Samuel Johnny all recorded personal bests in distance events. Rivera went 2:00.06 in the 800 meters to beat his old mark, Sincock lowered his mark in the 1,500 meters by more than two seconds (4:02.18) and Johnny slashed more than 30 seconds off his record in the 5,000 meters to finish at 16:12.83.

On the field, Jacob Lopez ran the 400-meter hurdles in 55:18 seconds for a new personal record and the 30th fastest time in the country this season.

Austin Warrington and Nick Aguilar were the only sprinters at the meet for La Verne and went 11.04 and 11.39, respectively, in the 100 meters.

Andrew Carrasco finished fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 51.92 meters (170 feet, 4 inches).

T.J. Randall recorded a toss of 12.87m (42-02.75) to finish 16th in the shot put finished 19th in the hammer throw (40.04m; 131-04).

Michael Burciaga-Ellis threw the javelin 46.30 meters (151-11) and finished 19th.

The Leopards host the third SCIAC Multi-Dual meet of the season on Saturday.
