Swim & Dive falls to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The University of La Verne men's and women's swimming and diving teams both fell to nationally ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a dual meet at La Verne Aquatic Center on Saturday.

The Stags are ranked 16th and the Athenas are 14th in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America team rankings.

All-American Maddie Lovrensky led the Leopards with two individual wins. The senior claimed the women's 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 59.26 second and came back to take the 200 backstroke at 2:09.86. She did not swim the 100 backstroke.

Jacqueline Rojas added a win for the women in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall at 1:09.82.

Krislyn Cha had a good showing in the women's 100 backstroke, finishing third with a time of 1:05.22.

Highlighting the men's competition of La Verne was Daniel Carpenter, who had a pair of top-5 finishes in the freestyle events. Carpenter finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 1:49.27 and was runner-up in the 100 at 47.79.

Felipe Avendano Vila showed strongly in the 200 butterfly, finishing second with a time of 2:03.01.

Jarrett Peterson clocked in at 2:04.72 the 200 backstroke to finish third.

The women are back in action tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. at La Verne Aquatic Center.

Divers are set to compete at Caltech on Jan 23 and 4 p.m.

Both teams resume SCIAC action on Jan. 24 against Occidental at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center.
