Swim & Dive wraps up dual meets at Chapman

LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up their dual-meet portion of the 2014-15 season against Chapman and Redlands on Saturday.

The men's team split on the day, beating Chapman, 138-117, but losing to Redlands, 184-86. The women's team lost both, 148-142 and 189-109, to Chapman and Redlands, respectively.

All-American Maddie Lovrensky once again led the way for the Leopards, winning all four events in which she competed. Lovrensky swam the backstroke leg of the claimed women's 200 yard medley relay (1 minute, 52.41 seconds), the 200 freestyle (1:57.22), the 50 freestyle (24.77) and the 200 backstroke (2:07.68). She remains undefeated in backstroke events in SCIAC competition in her career with only the 2015 SCIAC Championships to go.

Jacqueline Rojas swam the backstroke leg of the winning 200 medley team and out-touched Redlands' Claire Stuhr by less than six-one hundredth of a second to take the 100 breaststroke. Stuhr came back to win the 200 breaststroke.

Mike Sanchez, who's been battling a foot injury, won both of the men's breaststroke events in a dominant fashion. The senior was the only swimmer to come in under a minute (58.66) in the 100 and won the event by almost five seconds. He then clocked a 2:08.33 to win the 200.

Daniel Carpenter also emerged a double-winner. The sprint specialist went 21.47 to win the 50 freestyle and came back to win the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.04.
