The University of La Verne women's basketball squad faced a formidable foe in unbeaten Lewis-Clark State College. Though the Leopards battled throughout the contest, they would come up short in a 92-81 defeat to the NAIA Warriors Saturday in Santa Cruz.
The Warriors posted a 55-44 lead at the half and maintained their double-digit advantage throughout the second stanza to remain undefeated on the season improving to 8-0.
La Verne (2-3) countered by using their uptempo style and three-point shooting.
The Leopards shot 23-of-75 (30.7%) from the field overall, and 12-of-43 (27.9%) from behind the arc. La Verne also enjoyed an impressive effort at the free throw line in making 23 of 26 attempts (88.5%) from the charity stripe.
Kirsi Voshell paced the Warriors with a double-double of 20
points and12 rebounds. Jasmine Stohr collected 21 points to
go with 5 rebounds.
Mayra Duenas, who was 4-of-8 from 3-point territory and
9-of-10 at the foul line, led La Verne with 25 points and seven
rebounds. Devon
Michaels and Ashley Paul
had 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Michaels scored each of her 15 points on three-pointers,
making a game-high five treys for the game.
The Leopards return to action Wednesday night as they travel
to Orange to take on Chapman University at 7:00 pm.
