The University of La Verne women's basketball team dropped a 93-65 decision at Chapman University as the Panthers shot 50.8% from the field en route to victory Wednesday night at the Hutton Center in Orange.
Chapman used a 20-2 spurt to gain an 22-7 advantage at the 13-minute mark of the first half. From there, the Panthers continued their momentum through the end of the half to take a 52-28 lead at intermission.
La Verne would not get closer than 21 points in the second half as the Chapman defense held the Leopards to 33.3% shooting from the field while forcing 24 turnovers. The Leos did finish the game with a 43-41 edge in rebounding.
Simone Ibbotson led Chapman with 19 points while Mary Petrie and Brandi Hood added 18 and 16 points, respectively. Hood also collected a game-high 10 rebounds.
Stephanie Shepard paced La Verne in scoring with 13 points, hitting 5 of 10 field goal attempts. Emily Carrillo added 12 points and 6 rebounds with Clarissa Holz posting a team-high 8 rebounds.
The Leopards return home on Saturday to face Whitworth at Frantz Athletic Court for a 5:00 pm tip-off.
