Carrillo Lands Spots On All-SCIAC First Team

Senior Emily Carrillo represented the University of La Verne on the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Women's Basketball Team by earning a First Team selection as announced by the league office on Thursday.

The 5-9 forward earned First Team All-SCIAC recognition for the second time of her career after garnering First Team honors as a junior in 2009.  After missing 2009-10 season due to injury, Carrillo reached the 1,000-point plateau this season and led the Leopards to a spot in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

Carrillo averaged 12.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while connecting on 48.1% of her field goal attempts during the 2010-11 season.  In conference games her numbers increased to 15.6 points and 5.5 boards per contest in addition to shooting 53.2% from the field.

A product out of Covina High School, Carrillo excelled during the second half of the season as she led the Leopards in scoring in 9 of the final 11 games.  During that span she recorded four 20-point games including a 29-point effort in the regular season finale against Redlands on February 22 to help the Leos clinch a berth in the conference tournament.

La Verne finished the regular season with a 12-14 overall record in 2010-11, posting a 9-5 mark in SCIAC play to tie for third place in the league standings.
