Myers, Valentine lead Women’s Basketball past La Sierra

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Emily Myers had another huge game, Kayla Valentine scored 17 points and the University of La Verne women's basketball team defeated La Sierra, 63-52, on Saturday.

Myers registered a double-double for the second consecutive game, scoring 22 points and hauling in 10 rebounds. It was also her second straight game with 20-plus points.

Valentine chipped in 17 points while grabbing six rebounds.

After a tight defensive first half in which neither team shot better than .300, La Verne came back more aggressive offensively in the second half. The Leopards attacked the basket, drawing 18 foul shots just in the second half after getting to the line just once in the opening half.

The Leopards were also more efficient in the second half. After going 9-for-36 (.250) in the first, the Leopards closed out the game with a 14-for-34 performance in the second half.

Kayla Chism was impressive on the boards for La Verne, collecting eight rebounds.

Faith and Tina Fantroy led the Golden Eagles' effort. The duo combined for 29 points 19 rebounds.

La Verne returns to action on Tuesday against Knox at home. The tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
