Cougars pull away late from Leopards

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Three Leopards finished in double figures but Concordia University Chicago pulled away in the second half to beat the University of La Verne Leopards 112-73 Wednesday night at the Rains Center.

Clarissa Perez scored a least 20 points for the sixth time this season and fifth game in a row. After scoring 44 points in a 90-83 win over NAIA La Sierra on Tuesday, the junior dropped 20 points against the Cougars with four three-pointers to go with four rebounds, three assists, and a steal.

Kristi Sakamoto had a strong showing for the Leopards finishing with four three-pointers, knocking down three in a row late in the third quarter, for a career-high 14 points.

Angelina Puno also had the best scoring day of her young career. The freshman totaled 13 points while grabbing three boards, dishing out an assist, and recording a steal.

Senior Kayla Chism led La Verne with seven rebounds with Janice Deguerio grabbing six of her own.

Guard Caitlin Fu dished out five assists.

Concordia Chicago was led by Taylor Jacobsen's 26 points. 

Season Impact: The Leopards move to 2-6 overall. The Cougars improve to 6-2.

Next Game: The Leopards break for the holidays and return to action on Thursday, December 28 in Thousand Oaks when they play Buena Vista at 2:00 p.m in the Cal Lutheran Tournament.
