Women's Basketball falls on the road

PASADENA, Calif. — Clarissa Perez led La Verne with 27 points and the Leopards forced 24 Caltech turnovers. But the University of La Verne women's basketball team couldn't hold onto an early lead, falling to the Beavers on the road 82-68.

The Leopards finished with 11 three-pointers as a team with Perez leading her squad with four. Senior Kristi Sakamoto added three three-pointers, finishing with 10 points off the bench.

Perez leads the SCIAC with 23.3 points per game, over six points more than the next closest player, and currently ranks 7th in the nation. The junior also grabbed six rebounds and dished three assists.

Jessica Hanashiro nearly notched a double-double, finishing with a career-high 10 rebounds and nine points.

Alexa Withers led La Verne with 11 rebounds.

Samantha D'Costa led the Beavers with 26 points. 

The Leopards drop to 3-12 overall and 2-5 in the SCIAC. Caltech improves to 3-11 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

Next Game: The Leopards next travel to Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday, January 17. Tip-off against the Sagehens is set for 7 p.m.
