Leopards fall to Buena Vista in Thousand Oaks

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Clarissa Perez led all players with 27 points, Kristi Sakamoto added 12 points, but the University of La Verne women's basketball team couldn't overcome hot shooting by the Beavers, falling 97-76 in their first game of the Cal Lutheran Tournament.

Perez extended her streak of scoring 20 or more points to six games. Perez has averaged 29 points per game during the streak. The junior currently ranks second in the nation in points per game.

Perez also nearly notched her second double-double of the year, leading the Leopards with nine rebounds, and also knocked down four three-pointers.

Sakamoto finished in double figures for the second game in a row, benefitting from three three-pointers. 

Alexa Withers had a solid game, grabbing eight rebounds to go with seven points. 

The Leopards finished with 31 points off the bench. 

Bailey Kurahashi finished with seven points. 

Claudia Larsen led Buena Vista with 24 points.

Season Impact: La Verne moves to 2-6 overall. Buena Vista improves to 4-5.

Next Game: The Leopards conclude the Cal Lutheran Tournament with a 2 p.m. game against Pacific Lutheran on Friday.
