Track and Field Competes in Flagstaff

FLAGSTAFF, AZ — Zachary Reid set a school record, Jade Griffin ran an NCAA Division III top-ten time, and the University of La Verne track and field teams added five other personal records at the Moutain T's Invitational at Northern Arizona.

The Leopards competed in a field of athletes from all divisions as well as unattached competitors.

Reid posted a new La Verne best in the 60m hurdles when he crossed the finish line as the top NCAA DIII finisher with a time of 8.59. Griffin had an outstanding pair of races for the Leopards. The senior finished as the top DIII runner in both the 200m (25.29) and the 400m (59.83) Her time in the 200m ranks ninth on the NCAA DIII indoor list.

Vera Juncaj finished as the dop DIII athlete in the pentathlon with a personal best final point total of 2,710. Not to be outdone, Emily Heldenbrand added a personal-best mark in the pentathlon with a score of 2,638.

In the throws, Matthew Pedroza set a personal best in the weight throw with a distance of 14.29m. Subdue Ezinwa added a personal record throw of 12.81m in the shot put. Both athletes were the top DIII performers in their respective events.

Patrick Cornwell was the best DIII runner in the 400m, clocking in at 50.65. Jonathan Lewis ran a personal-best time of 8.86 in the 60m hurdles.

Alexander Medina and Matthew Salas battled the 7,000 feet altitude in some of the longer events. Salas posted the individual placing for the Leopards with a second-place performance in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.56. Medina added a fast time of 4:45.24 in the one-mile run. 

Next Meet

The Leopards get back to action on Saturday, February 22 when they travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the JDL DMR Invitational.
