Track and Field Impresses at Portland Indoor

PORTLAND, OR — The University of La Verne track and field teams sent three athletes to Oregon and the trio did not disappoint.

Matthew Salas scored the best finish for the Leopards. The junior bested a field of athletes from all divisions and won the 800m run with a time of 1:55.58.

Jade Griffin was the best NCAA Division III runner and third overall in the 200m dash with a time of 24.66. In the 60m dash, the senior recovered from a slow start to finish second in her heat with a time of 8.11.

Zachary Reid won his qualifying heat in the 60m high hurdles and went on to post a fifth-place finish in the finals of the event. Reid was the second-fastest DIII runner in the event with a time of 8.77.

"It was a good weekend in Oregon with a small group," said La Verne Track and Field Head Coach Kevin Reid. "All three showed well and competed well in a big meet. Taking into account travel and two uniquely designed tracks we did well. It definitely set us up for our next meet in two weeks at JDL FastTrack in North Carolina."

Next Meet

The Leopards are back in action on February 22 when they travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the JDL Invitational.
