The University of La Verne volleyball team will begin the 2012 season this weekend as it competes in the Pacific Coast Classic Friday and Saturday at Frantz Athletic Court.
This is the first season in which La Verne shares hosting duties to the season opening tourney, which is co-hosted by Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
La Verne will face a strong challenge on the opening day as it faces a pair of nationally-ranked teams on Friday. The Leos begin the day against UMass Boston, ranked No. 16 in the AVCA Division III Top 25 Poll at 10:30 am. Later, the Leopards take on preseason No. 14 and 2011 region finalist Colorado College at 5:00 pm.
On Saturday, La Verne will take on yet another 2011 NCAA Tournament participant in NYU Polytechnic at 9 am and will conclude action against Baldwin Wallace scheduled for a 3:30 pm start.
La Verne plays a total of 13 home matches this season and includes six NCAA Tournament teams from 2011.
