The University of La Verne concluded action at the Pacific Coast Classic with a pair of sweeps on Saturday, earning three-set triumphs over NYU Polytechnic and Baldwin Wallace at Frantz Athletic Court.
The Leos began the day with a 25-5, 25-23, 25-20 win over NYU Poly and ended with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-20 to improve to 3-1 on the young season.
A pair of Glendora High alums sparked the Leopard offensive attack. Senior outside hitter Randi Taylor-Toomay hit .625 for the match with 10 kills, and was aided by freshman outside hitter Brittany Yaxley who added 9 kills.
Defensively, the Leopards registered six total blocks as they held their opponent to a -.088 hitting percentage. Taylor-Toomay along with freshman Ashlyn Cross totaled 9 digs in the contest.
La Verne closed out its weekend by stopping Baldwin Wallace in three sets. The duo of Taylor-Toomay (16) and Yaxley (11) combined for 27 kills. Yaxley hit .429 against the Yellow Jackets while adding 4 service aces. Catie Logan and Kayla Cribbs added six kills and two blocks each with setter Krystal Castellanos posting 32 assists in the victory.
The Leos return to action next weekend at the Posada Royale Tournament, held Sept. 7-8 in Thousand Oaks. La Verne will open the tournament with Friday matches against UC Santa Cruz at 12:30 pm and Wesley at 5:00 pm.
