LA VERNE, Calif. — Darrah Jones put down seven kills and the No. 14 University of La Verne volleyball team rolled on their way to a 3-0 sweep against the Caltech Beavers Saturday evening.
Set Scores: 25-11, 25-13, 25-12
Season Impact: The Leopards improve to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in SCIAC play. Caltech falls to 1-8 overall and 0-2 in the SCIAC.
Emma Estigoy had a big game for the Leopards. The freshman finished with six kills in the game with a .385 hitting percentage.
The Leopards dominated from the start, opening the first set on an 11-4 run. Senior Marisa Rojo added four of her five kills in the set. Natalie Barragan and Kelsie Sievers each put down two on the way to a 1-0 lead.
In the second, La Verne opened up with a 5-0 lead and ran away with rest of the set while hitting .419. Estigoy added four of her kills in the set with Sievers adding three of her own.
Jones led the Leopards with four kills in the final set, closing out the sweep.
Libero Kristen Sanchez totaled three aces in the game to go with 13 digs and six assists. Madison Maynes had a game-high 17 assists. Barragan dished out 10 assists in the game.
