Volleyball Sweeps Redlands, Clinches Postseason Berth

REDLANDS, CA — Ayana Mier led all players with 14 kills and the University of La Verne volleyball team rolled on their way to a 3-0 win over the Redlands Bulldogs.

Season Impact

With the win, the Leopards improve to 15-11 overall and 9-6 in the conference. La Verne claims the fourth seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament and will play No. 1 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Leopards and Athenas will square off in the regular-season finale tomorrow.

Redlands falls to 8-18 overall and 5-10 in the SCIAC.

Stat Leaders

Mier hit an outstanding .344 in the match on the way to her 14 kills. The freshman has finished with double-digit kills in five of her last six matches.

The Leopards finished the match with a .307 hitting percentage and hit .394 in the second set.

Pi'ikea Clemens finished with a game-high 18 digs to go with 11 kills and three blocks. It was the fourth-straight double-double for the junior.

Madison Maynes stayed busy in the win, dishing out 37 assists in the win. The senior also added 14 digs, two kills, and one block.

Rylee Callen posted one of the best games of her career, totaling eight kills and four blocks. Emily Heldenbrand recorded 13 digs and one assist. 

Emma Estigoy added 14 digs, one kill, one ace, and, two assists. Estigoy is tied for first on the Leopards' squad with 28 aces. Noelle Blumel finished seven digs and one ace.

The Bulldogs were led by Hannah Laynon's nine kills and Paige Davidson's 17 digs.

Next Game

La Verne hosts Claremont-Mudd-Scripps tomorrow at 4 p.m. The Leopards will celebrate seniors Darrah Jones and Madison Maynes in a brief pregame ceremony.
