Leopards Split Pair of Contests At Lancer Invite

The University of La Verne women's water polo squad notched another victory today against Macalester at the Lancer Invitational hosted by Cal Baptist.  Led by Alex Gudeneau's offensive efforts the Leopards prevailed over Macalester 13-9.

The first game was all La Verne as the Leopards jumped out to a commanding 6-1 lead in the first quarter courtesy of Gudeneau, Katie Lacek, Nicole Tuning, Melissa Pryor, Allison Pryor, and Justine Mojarro and held the lead for the duration of the match.  Mojarro would also tack on another goal in the second quarter helping La Verne build an 8-3 lead at the half.

Gudeneau would tack on an additional two goals in the second half along with Tuning who also tacked on another.  Macalester would scatter six goals in the remaining frames but the Leopard defense would hold the opponent at bay to capture the 13-9 victory.

The Leopard offense would remain strong in the second game of the day against George Washington but would be outshot resulting in an 11-7 defeat.  La Verne would scatter 7 goals throughout the four frames and would come within one goal.  However, George Washington would capitalize on a La Verne exclusion and go on a 4-1 run.  Despite a late run the Leoopards would ultimately fall to the Colonials.  Gudeaneau and Stephanie Tuning each had two goals in the contest.

La Verne is now  7-9 on the year and will take part in a three-game set tomorrow against Washington & Jefferson, Macalester, and Colorado State beginning at noon.
